The Carpenters

How it all started

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.

Psalms 66:2

Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious.

Let’s revisit the past

During the Civil War this place was known as the Maness Plantation. The Maness Cemetery is still located on the property and open to the public. In 1943 Camp Crowder forced home and landowners in the area to sell their property to them. Between December 1942 and May 1946, Missouri was home to more than 10,000 German and Italian prisoners of war who lived in 32 camps scattered throughout the state, including at Camp Crowder. After the War Camp Crowder sold the land back to the residents. My Great Grandfather heard about this and moved his family from Silver City, Texas buying 300 acres. The Maness Plantation was bought by another family, my family was able to purchase it in 1986. It wasn’t much to look at when my Grandparents bought it. It had sat years abandoned after the previous house had burnt. In their upper 40’s my grandparents transformed the property to what it is today, holding countless church events in the small cook shack and outside shelters. The property was known as Bussey Lakes.

26 years later…

Matt and I said our vows, June 2, 2012, on the dock overlooking the spring fed pond. After the honeymoon, he got a job at a hog production barn and I became a third grade teacher at a local school. A beautiful baby girl came along a year later.  I had a deep desire to be a stay at home momma.  Two years later the Lord truly parted the waters for us  and we broke ground on a wedding and event center.  My dad designed the barn and we started the build. We had so many people; family, friends and coworkers who jumped in and helped us build our dream. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though, my dad lost his thumb to a table saw and it never stopped raining that spring. But, in six months we had a building and weddings in the book.
The barn was completed July 2014. We have booked weddings since then from all over the four state area and more! In six years we have met so many amazing people and have been apart of so many memorable events.

2021- We have three babies today. I started graduate school while at home and have a masters in Counseling.  I am a school counselor at a small school where my two oldest children attend.  His answer isn’t always immediate, but His timing is perfect.  We look forward to meeting you and seeing how Bullskin Creek will play a part in your story.

Romans 1:16

I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God that brings salvation to all who believe.
